How to unlock IC that the model number does not show on cap

We’ve received the IC unlock questions from a lot of customers that if the IC model has been grind off,  is the IC still unlockable ? The answer is yes. 

But how to unlock the IC if it’s model does not show on its cap? We could diagnose the IC model from the surrounding circuit design. If it’s not identifiable,  we will open the IC cover to check the wafer of the IC,  and find the IC model.
